Our story

A little background information

Many people do not know who or what an optometrist is or does and often mix us up with Opticians and Ophthalmologists. So who exactly are Opticians, Optometrists and Ophthalmologists?

What is an Optician?

Opticians are technicians trained to dispense and prescribe spectacles. Opticians are not permitted to diagnose or treat eye diseases.

What is an Ophthalmologist?

An Ophthalmologist is an eye doctor who performs vision-related surgical procedures. Their medical training provides them with the expertise to diagnose eye diseases, offer treatments, conduct surgeries and prescribe medication.

Who are we? We are Optometrists.

An Optometrist is a healthcare professional who are able to examine eyes for vision and health problems, diagnose and treat certain eye diseases and conditions, and prescribe and fit patients with glasses or contact lenses for common refractive errors.

Certified optometrists like our team in Royalight, are able to provide alternative services, such as vision therapy, low vision care, dry eye treatment and myopia control.

why choose an optometrist?

If your eyes are generally healthy and don’t require specialized surgical treatment, visiting an optometrist is the obvious choice. Moreover, beyond performing routine eye exams, optometrists can detect, diagnose and manage eye diseases that require medical and non-medical treatment. We prescribe spectacles and contact lenses as well.

Think of your optometrist as a primary care physician for your eyes. When in need of a routine eye check-up, or if you’re dealing with an eye condition or notice your vision changing, it’s time to visit the optometrist.

These treatments include, but are not limited to:

Dry Eye Treatment, Vision Therapy, Low Vision Management, Myopia Control, Specialty Contact Lens Fitting, Management and/or treatment of various corneal conditions and irregularities.

How we started royalight

We are a team of two Optometrists coming from different backgrounds. Having work with one and another in an optical shop for a while, we realized we had very similar minds on optometry. We both wanted to make a difference in the optical trade and strive for a more service orientated optical shop.

Royalight Signage

Royalight Optometrist got its name from Royal and Light. Royal as we aim to serve our customers vision quality services. Light as we require light for sight.

The logo is a flipped R and a L, symbolising the Right eye and Left eye, as we use both eyes to see a single clear image. The flipped R has an additional curve inside that symbolises a cornea that is being flatten. This is a method of Myopia management called Ortho-K which we specialize in.

What makes us unique?

Your vision is our mission

We had in mind a type of retail optical store with clinical style concept where we provide comprehensive eye examinations instead of just a simple degree check that most other optical stores do. The additional tests performed actually helps us to better understand each customer’s needs and enables us to give a more suitable management for every unique customer.

A human has five senses, sight being one. We believe that our vision is too important to take for granted, as it has an astonishing impact on the quality of life. We started Royalight Optometrist believing that eye health is not just about having our degree routinely checked. A simple eye health examination can tell us many things, like eye diseases and maybe even underlying health conditions like diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol levels etc.

Here at Royalight Optometrist, we want to remind everyone not to put off regular eye exams just because your eyes feel fine or you don’t wear glasses or contact lenses. We strive to make the checks as comprehensive as possible, explaining the details on the way at an affordable rate for everyone to enjoy.
